Collapsing Cold Shower

It's funny the kind of mixed emotions you get when tender loving care and abusively profane incompetence are both presented one after another in front of you.

I detest much of army life, but I've got to give credit where credit is due and I must say the medics there can be very attentive and thoughtful underneath their usual tough exterior.

While I've been put on the IV drip a bit too long for my liking, I'm thankful the fever has gone down considerably to 36.4 degrees Celsius from my highest peak of 38.7 degrees.

Some, and I emphasise only some, superiors are actually quite questioningly nice too.

Within 4 weeks, I've:
  • made 5 visits to the medical centre;
  • been excused from uniform 4 times for a total of 18 days;
  • been given Attend B (i.e. to perform light duties only) 3 times for a total of 7 days;
  • bumped into 3 familiar faces at the medical centre;
  • been pointlessly excused from running, marching, jumping and boots once for 2 days; and
  • slept in the sick bay and been put on drip and a low-fat diet for almost 1 full day.
After being discharged, I returned to bunk for a shower, with cold wind blowing from outside, some minutes before booking out. It was surreal.
